Budapest is a beautiful, charming city with lots to explore. The “Buda” side occupies the west side with the medieval castle and rolling hills. The Danube River separates the west side from the “Pest” side, which is where the shops, restaurants, and most sight-seeing will be. Our hotel is on the “Pest” side. During this time of year, the city is bustling with visitors as many come to experience the quaint holiday markets and thermal spas.
For Muchan, we always weave Jewish history learning into our conference, and Budapest is steeped in Jewish history. The Great Synagogue is a testament of a past beautiful age of Jewish life, prosperity, and respect. Of course, there is great sorrow found in Budapest’s Jewish community from the horrors of World War II. We will learn, explore, and visually see Budapest’s many eras of history.
Important to note—we chose Budapest because it is a safe city to visit in Europe. It is listed as a “green” country to visit on Israel’s travel warning list.
With anti-Israel demonstrations and lack of safety popping up all over Europe, we found Hungary to be the best choice. You can hear Hebrew and spot Israelis and Jewish people all over the city.
